Opportunities to Serve at Asbury

Clean & Green

Asbury works in partnership with the Land Bank of Genesee County to maintain lots in the neighborhood. Crews pick up trash and debris, trim, landscape and mow lots that are otherwise ignored and unsightly. We could use a zero-turn mower, walking mowers, and landscaping materials. Most important, we can use your help and your prayers.

Community Gardening

Asbury has initiated several community gardens that require ongoing care. These gardens belong to our neighborhood and offer opportunities for us to meet our neighbors and build community. Our future plans call for the construction of a “high tunnel” (hoop house, green house). This structure will provide an environment for year-round instruction and fresh produce.

Connecting Neighbors

Bringing neighbors together is a critical part of building a better neighborhood. Connecting Neighbors is an ongoing ministry that assesses individual gifts and passions and looks for ways to bring people together to in ways that improve relationships and our community. This ministry needs your time, your financial support, and your prayers.

Family Center

Families living in our neighborhood are looking for helpful ways to provide for themselves and their children. Literacy is one of the limiting factors for many of our neighbors and there are no schools left in our neighborhood. The Asbury Family Center is a beacon of hope and helpfulness. We need your time, talents, and financial support of this critical ministry.

Pantry

Every week individuals and families turn to Asbury to help them supplement their food supply or for personal items. Asbury is a partner with the Genesee County Food Bank where we can purchase at a big discount. We are in need of volunteers to shop, organize, fill orders, and bring creative ideas. We also need food items, including meats, paper products, personal items diapers, and financial support.

Park Benches

Each park bench offers a resting place for someone in our neighborhood that is “outside in the neighborhood.” Asbury benches are constructed using poured, concrete supports, treated lumber and hardware. Fabrication is done by local youth using new skills that they learn by doing. Your financial contributions make it possible for us to build more benches.

Social Media

Telling others about the work that God is doing through Asbury is a critical part of our obligation as a Christian faith community. While enhancing and maintaining our website requires special skills which we sorely need, all of us can help enhance our presence in the social media. Posting on our Facebook page is one example of how we can share the good news of Christ.

Student Housing

The Asbury House offers local college students a way to use their gifts and passions together with their faith in building a better neighborhood. Let us know if you are are know of a student in need of housing.
